Waiting for Spring
During March, we always talk about the various types of weather we experience. It can be sunny and warm one day and snowy and cold the next. This year we had a lot of rainy and cold days in March, but we had tons of fun inside the classroom with various projects and activities.
One of our letters this month was the letter V. We made volcanos by tearing two types of paper: construction paper for the base and tissue paper for the lava. We also made “real volcanos” in the sensory table using baking soda and vinegar. The children experimented by using pipettes to squirt vinegar over the baking soda to make it erupt. They had such a wonderful time experimenting with different amounts of each substance and predicting what would happen.
We had fun celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the Yellow Class. Most of our friends wore green; we painted shamrocks and read a St. Patrick’s Day story about Pete the Cat.

One of our favorite art projects this month was this multi-layered mural. We started by painting the background with grass, buildings and sky and kept adding from there. We asked the children what they wanted to add, and they offered several ideas. The finished product contains a sun, a pond with fish, flowers, trees and birds. We used many different tools and materials to create this piece of art. We just love it!
As we head into April, we are looking forward to some warmer and sunnier weather so that we can get back outside for some fun playground time. We are also looking forward to saying goodbye to the red snow clothes bag! Thank you for being so diligent about sending it in, espcially this late in the year. Hopefully we will not need it for much longer…
